If you want an example of my full range of jack-of-all-trades skills, my work with Michael at Call for Content is a prime example.
He hired me in early 2018 for some marketing automation work. He was one of my first clients, and we worked together for more than two years. I was essentially his “Right Hand (wo)Man” because I took on projects to experiment, iterate, and build the business.
Website Creation and Management
The original Call for Content website was a simple text-based site in WordPress. I rewrote the site using the Storybrand framework and built it out in Squarespace as well as coordinated with a freelance designer on graphic elements and styling.
A website is never really done. I managed site updates as we tested service lines, marketing tactics, landing page messaging, and more. We reworked the website constantly and did at least one full rebuild on the site in various-sized increments.
Content Creation
The content creation process for Call for Content followed what we did for customers—create robust, value-focused content that helped readers get something done. Our pillar content was focused around playbooks. I helped write (and/or coordinate writers), edit, publish, distribute, and promote each playbook. I also helped build the downloadable resources, the chatbots for requesting the downloads, and the delivery and follow-up email sequences for each playbook.
In addition to the playbooks, we created blog posts, guest blog posts, social media content, and podcasts.
Marketing Automation
I was originally hired by Call for Content to work on marketing automation, and it stayed part of my role through my two years working with this client.
Most of Call for Content’s automations were chatbots and emails through Drift, the go-to bot and live chat platform on the market. I built my conversational marketing skills and learned how to build and adjust bots in Drift as the platform grew and changed.
As Drift moved away from its email offerings, we integrated Autopilot for automated and broadcast email marketing. I built out list management integrations with Drift and moved over the playbook delivery workflows so everything was connected.
Duties as Assigned
In my years working with Michael, we moved fast, were agile in our work planning, and experimented with a lot of projects and approaches. I did a lot of random projects and put that jack-of-all-trades moniker to good use.
